Welcome to the first Missouri Mondays of 2025. We hope these last few weeks have been restorative and that you are ready to join us again in action for democracy and for our rights and freedoms.
First we pause to remember the brutal attack on our nation’s Capitol by an angry mob of Trump supporters four years ago in order to prevent the peaceful transfer of power. Democrats have promised there will be no objections today and Trump will get the peaceful transfer of power that he denied Joe Biden.
This Wednesday Missouri lawmakers will return to Jefferson City to begin the 2025 legislative session. Republicans return to work holding supermajorities again in the House and Senate and they hold every statewide elected office. With this much power so much could be done to make lives better, right? Now that Missouri voters have spoken by overturning the abortion ban, lawmakers surely would focus on other legislative priorities like affordable housing, expanding child care, addressing our gun violence epidemic. Nope. They have instead pre-filed bills to reinstate abortion bans and limiting abortion access. We have seen this playbook many times before and we deserve better.
They want to wear us down. We must keep fighting back and never give up or give in.

Planned Parenthood Great Rivers (PPGR) Action organizers spent months embedded with the Yes on 3 campaign, working to both win the right to reproductive freedom and build long-term power by connecting with everyday Missourians across the state. Voters sent a clear message to the anti-abortion politicians in Jefferson City: Get out of our exam rooms, and leave personal health care decisions to patients and their providers.
