No excuse in-person voting begins March 25!

Welcome to Missouri Mondays!

Missouri lawmakers return to Jefferson City for the final weeks of the 2025 Legislative session and are moving fast on a number of very concerning bills.

Before the break the MO House passes repeal of sick leave provision in voter approved Proposition A and “removes any minimum wage increase slated to go in effect in January 2027 and beyond.” The bill is now in the Senate.

As reported in Missouri Independent, the legislature has already sent Governor Kehoe two “high-profile bills that have historically faced fierce resistance”.  “One is a sweeping utilities bill that repeals a consumer protection law passed by voters almost 50 years ago. The other is a state takeover of the St. Louis Metropolitan Police Department, a key piece of the governor’s public safety agenda.”

We understand there is a LOT going on and it can feel overwhelming. For those who are ready to take action, check out:

KANSAS CITY - MARCH 25

STAND WITH THE MISSOURI WORKERS CENTER / STAND UP KC

SAVE OUR KCMO TRANSIT!

KCMO City Council Finance Committee Meeting

Tuesday, March 25

9:30am

KCMO City Hall

26th Floor

414 E 12th St

Kansas City, MO 64106

Wear Stand Up KC t-shirts or red!

Last week we organized hundreds of people — including IRIS drivers, union bus operators, riders, and climate leaders — to speak out together against KCMO City Council’s drastic efforts to gut our public transportation. But our fight isn’t over.

The power of drivers and community members united forced Council members to delay voting until Tuesday, March 25. We just showed the power of standing together to fight for the protections and peace of mind that we cannot win alone.

Take action with us at Tuesday’s 9:30am Finance Committee meeting. The Committee will consider a new proposal that claims to ‘fully fund our transit.’ But we know that’s not true.

Their plan would still end the IRIS program with no severance for drivers who are ineligible for unemployment benefits (because they’re illegally misclassified).

It would require bus riders to start paying $2 per trip, which adds up to at least $88 a month for workers who will have to choose between groceries and rent.

And it doesn’t even commit to fully funding our bus system long-term!

The stakes couldn’t be higher. This is likely our FINAL opportunity to save the IRIS program and demand a firm commitment to public transit that doesn't jeopardize the freedom of workers and riders. It’s up to each of us to hold our city leaders accountable.

Join drivers, riders, and allies to help protect our jobs and SAVE OUR TRANSIT!
